The Party of Personal Responsibility? . . . or . . . How about the Party of Anonymous Snitching?

I agree with Sarah Palin that the Republican Party is filled with a bunch of jerks.  That may not be the way she said it, but that is the way I’m saying it.  Half of the Republican Party wants to use the government to force their religion of Social Conservatism upon the entire population under the guise of personal responsiblity, but then when things don’t go their way they resort to childish name calling without even the common descency of taking responsiblity for their comments.  If the Republican Party was not apparently full of a bunch of hypocrits then I would like to think that the self rightous Republicans saying harmful things about Sarah Palin would at least excercise enough personal responsiblity to take personal responsiblity for their comments.  I hate to say it folks, but I am not at all surprised.  When it comes to the Republican Party in the 21st Century I think this is pretty much Par For The Course.

  1. Was it Orwell who said “less is more and more is less”? It’s hard to keep them straight. I’m going to stick around.

Thanks for interest in my website. The lifestyle outlined and implied there allows a rich, rewarding life with little income and can thereby drop the hand-scale farmer below the first tax bracket. I’ve not paid federal income tax in years–with no scamming or overt tas resistance at all. In this way I have been able to feel that, at least to some extent, I’ve not had to fund endless unconstitutional war and our corporate nanny state.

As to the Fair Tax, I’m not very happy with them although I would agree that some kind of consumption tax is a better way to go. I signed up to support them for a monthly donation on my credit card but when I used their own “tax calculator” to make comparative estimates of that I’d pay, I found I would be at significant disadvantage. When I asked them to quit charging my card they were completely unresponsive and eventually I had to close my account and get a new card in order to get out from under the charges. And I determined that they are, to be quite frank, dishonest in the way they do their arithmetic when they present their case for the advantages of Fair Tax. [can't recall details now]. A value added tax looks interesting and, like Fair Tax, taxes consumption rather than income.

A low income farmer or business person can do better under the present system but at the cost of hours and hours of record keeping and study of tax rules.

Tax preparers work for the government, not their clients. My experience is that they care little about clients but much about their standing with the IRS.
They are “tax collectors” in the biblical sense and that’s why I do my own.
    Good wishes,
