A woman’s body is a Sovereign Nation.

The United States government does not have any legal power to force other nations to treat their people a certain way.  If another country wants to murder their people for no good reason, then there is really not much that we can do about it.  Similarly, a woman’s body is a Sovereign Nation which has the right to make any unethical decisions that it deems necessary towards it’s own nation, reguardless of how many newly created human beings might exist in that nation.  This is not a perfect world, and there is nothing the Republican Party or the Comunist Party can do to try to make it a perfect world.  So the only alternative is to give everybody freedom of religion and hope for the best.  Just because your religion says that abortion should be illegal, doesn’t mean that you have the right to force a Sovereign Nation to conform to your religious views.  And that, my friends, is just one of those things that we have to learn to deal with when we become adults in this imperfect world.

  1. Ghost of Christmas Present

The argument that a woman can kill a child inside of her, because she is a sovereign nation, is an interesting one. Where does that sovereign nation end? If a baby, born to that mother/nation, is being held in that mother’s arms, does she still have the right to kill that baby? Do parents have the right to kill children in their sovereign nation/homes? If we as a society are okay with killing people who pose an inconvenience to us — pre-born, infants, the developmentally disabled, the infirm, the elderly — so be it. Abortion is an abomination to humankind. That being said, illegal abortions caused the injury and death of many women who went to “clinics” in back alleys. So, making them illegal isn’t without problems, but somehow rationalizing them as being okay is intellectually and philosophically dishonest, unless we’re okay with killing people in the groups listed above.

  2. Ghost, I think your argument is committing either the “slippery slope” fallacy or the “false analogy” fallacy. The sovereign nation ends when the baby is born, according to my proposal, and the killing of an unborn baby inside of a woman is not legitimately analogous to the other examples of killing people that you have listed. Do a google search for “fallacies” to get more information about the logical fallacies that you have committed in your argument.
