1) You don&#039;t just automatically get  residency because you&#039;re married to an American. It is an extremely LONG process and it&#039;s probably not going to work out well for you if you are in the country illegally, regardless of your marriage situation. For women who are illegal but mother children who are American citizens, citizenship or residency may come more easily... But even then, I wouldn&#039;t hedge your best there.

2) You should share everything with your spouse. The attitude of &quot;His&quot; and &quot;Hers&quot; contributes to the idea that marriage (and subsequently, divorce) is just a negotiation of cohabitation. Marriage is so much more. It is a partnership and should be treated as such.
