“A Vote For McCain or Obama Is A Wasted Vote”

There is a part of me that wants to vote for Barack Obama because he is “black”, because I think it would be good for America and good for the world, but there is a bigger part of me that is unhappy with all of the lies that both he and John McCain keep telling.  I agree with Bob Barr that a vote for McCain or Obama is a vote for the establishment.  McCain and Obama will tell us anything they want us to hear as long as it gives them a better chance of getting elected.  It seems like neither one of them has a clue what it means to be principled.  I suspect that if history is any indication of the future, both McCain and Obama will be happy to increase the size of government after being elected.  I absolutely do not agree with increasing the size of government.  I am absolutely disgusted with the entitlement mentality of most Americans.  What ever happened to good old personal responsibility and working hard to get what you want instead of trying to cast your vote to get the government to redistribute income from productive people to people who are too lazy to work hard for what they want?  I understand that some people are working as hard as they can and just don’t know how to effectively manage their finances, but that doesn’t mean that we should increase the size of government.  If anything it means that maybe we should use a portion of the 12 years that we are forcing people to attend public school to teach them how to manage their finances and make appropriate sacrifices during a portion of their life when they have no choice but to work for a low wage.  Or maybe we should use a portion of the 12 years that we are forcing people to attend public school to teach them that you can actually make a decent income with a skilled labor job without even having a college degree, if necessary.  With the resources that every American has available to them in this wealthy nation, it is virtually impossible for a hard working “poor” person to not be able to make a better life for him or herself if they relocate to another part of the United States if necessary, make a budget, make sacrifices, and get a job as a skilled labor apprentice, none of which requires government redistribution of income.  Anybody who grew up in the great depression can verify that I am telling the God’s honest truth.

I believe that a vote for either one of the establishment candidates is a vote for bigger government, and that is why I am voting for Bob Barr.  Watch this interview with Glenn Beck to see what I’m talking about: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6300661667256681550

  1. The fallacy of the perfect solution: If a choice won’t solve the problem perfectly, don’t do anything.

A vote for Bob Barr is not wasted from a philosophical perspective, but practically speaking, will be the same as not voting at all. Hence, a person doing so will be buying into the fallacy of the perfect solution.

Politics rarely provide perfect choices, but to look at two candidates and say they are the same, and that voting for one over the other won’t make a difference is intellectually dishonest.

That being said, voting based on principle and not pragmatically is by definition not very practical, but is very principled.

  2. Oh, how cute; Grampa and Mommy’s little libertarian. Apparently, political psychopathy is transmitted genetically.
I have no interest in your puerile and pandering efforts to substantiate your moral validity. Please remove me from your mailing list with no additional response. I will delete any further communication with you.

  3. Let me make one thing perfectly clear. I’m not trying to force my “libertarian” opinions on anybody, because I’m not even sure if my opinions are the best opinions anyway. That is why I named this website “Opposing Viewpoints” because I want to hear your opposing viewpoints so I can decide if your opposing viewpoints are better or worse than my opposing viewpoints. I already knew that I was a political psychopath with puerile and pandering efforts to substantiate my moral validity. Tell me something I didn’t already know! Ha! Instead of stating the “obvious”, you should share your opposing viewpoints with all of my readers so that we can decide if we agree or disagree with your opposing viewpoints. Or, you can just continue calling me names, if that is the best your intellectual genius can muster. Either way I can take the heat, so give me your best shot!
